Nookd never sees your files, your password or who you are. Your files are encrypted on your device and kept in your own iCloud. The only data that leaves your device for anyone other than Apple is what the subscription service needs.
Who we are
Nookd is made by NOMUD ("we", "us"). If you have a question about this policy or your data, write to [email protected].
Your files and your password
- Nookd encrypts every file on your device before it is stored, each with its own key derived from your password. Thumbnails and the details Nookd keeps about your files are encrypted too.
- The encrypted files sync through your private iCloud account (CloudKit and iCloud Drive), which Apple operates under Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud account and could not decrypt your files if we had.
- Your password never leaves your device. While you're logged in, it is kept in your device's Keychain so encryption can continue in the background, and it is removed when you log out.
- We cannot recover a forgotten password, or any file encrypted with it.
- When you share or export a file, Nookd decrypts a copy into a private temporary folder for the share sheet, and clears those copies the next time it starts. What you share is then handled by whatever you share it with.
Subscriptions
Nookd is free for your first 100 files in each profile. Subscriptions (Spare Key and Skeleton Key) are sold by Apple through the App Store; we never see your payment details.
To know whether you're subscribed, on every device you use Nookd on, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. RevenueCat receives:
- The App Store's anonymous ID for the Apple Account that downloaded Nookd. Nookd shows it in Settings as your support code.
- The purchase history of your Nookd subscription (which plan, when it started and renews).
- The technical details any app sends with a network request, such as IP address, device type, and system and app version.
RevenueCat never receives your files, file names, folders, passwords or profiles. We use this information only to give you access to what you paid for, and to help if you contact us about a purchase.
What we don't do
- No accounts: there is no sign-up, email address or phone number.
- No analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Nookd contains no analytics or advertising code.
- We don't sell or share personal information.
Settings on your device
Choices such as appearance and the privacy switches in Settings are stored on your device only.
This website
This site uses no cookies, analytics or third-party scripts, and loads nothing from other sites. It is hosted by DigitalOcean, whose servers receive the technical details every web request carries, such as IP address and browser, in order to deliver the pages. If you pick light or dark mode here, that choice is saved in your browser and never sent anywhere.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Your files stay in your iCloud until you delete them. Deleting files in Nookd deletes them from iCloud. To remove everything, delete Nookd's data in your device's iCloud storage settings and delete the app.
- To have your subscription records deleted from RevenueCat, email us your support code from Nookd's Settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it or to have it deleted. Apart from the subscription records described above, we hold none. Write to [email protected] and we'll reply within 30 days.
Children
Nookd is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Nookd handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
